Porpoise Bay would have to be one of my most favorite places on the planet…. isolated, windswept, wild and incredibly beautiful.
Just around the corner from Porpoise Bay is Curio Bay …..families of yellow eyed penguins(endangered) make their home here. We were lucky enough to see them but unfortunately too dark to take pictures. The bay itself is a remnant of petrified forest as well as the home to colonies of bull kelp.
Sunset at the back of curio bay……across emerald green paddocks.
And sheep around the corner….
A truly beautiful place.
The Catlins would have to be one of my favorite places……beautiful bush, amazing rugged coastlines, isolated, windswept and incredibly beautiful…..
Porpoise bay….named after a small dolphin that frequents this bay sometimes known as hectors dolphin. We didn’t have the pleasure of seeing them this trip.
The view from the front window of our bach overlooking the bay……
Around the corner is Curio bay which is the remnants of a very old petrefied rainforest…there are large beds of bull kelp and it is the home of the rare yellow eyed penguin. We were lucky to see them, but unfortunately it was too dark for photos.
Fascinating and beautiful……..
