At the bottom of the south island……almost

Porpoise Bay would have to be one of my most favorite places on the planet…. isolated, windswept, wild and incredibly beautiful.

Just around the corner from Porpoise Bay is Curio Bay …..families of yellow eyed penguins(endangered) make their home here. We were lucky enough to see them but unfortunately too dark to take pictures. The  bay itself is a remnant of  petrified forest as well as the home to colonies of bull kelp.

Sunset at the back of curio bay……across emerald green paddocks.

And sheep around the corner….

A truly beautiful place.

  1. Very interesting photos and comments, thank you!!!! We have a wall-to-wall fireplace of petrified palm tree from Wyoming, when allowed to be hauled away 40 years ago. Also pieces as border around garden that are very interesting. This area Denver Colorado to Wyoming, and probably many other states thousands of years ago was a rainforest!!!!
